The City of Gunnison, is located at 7,723 feet with a population of approximately 6,560 full-time residents and is the county seat for Gunnison County and home to Western Colorado University. Cattlemen’s Days is the longest running rodeo in Colorado and the 4th longest in the country. Each year Gunnison Cattlemen’s Days celebrates the rich history and traditions of the ranching culture. In July, this tradition puts on the “Granddaddy of Colorado Rodeos”, an event staged by our committee, volunteers, and the community for Professional Rodeo Cowboys and Cowgirls and the people who love to watch them. The week leading to the rodeo is Gunnison’s County Fair with youth 4H competitions and the locals Watershed events happening all week.

Crested Butte Nordic Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1987. They groom over 50 kilometers of trails in the upper Gunnison Valley. There are also several free roads to go cross-country skiing near Crested Butte. Gunnison Nordic grooms a large trail network in Hartman Rocks and Mill Creek in Gunnison, along with a few places around town. And don’t miss a unique opportunity for cross-country skiing at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.

Monarch Ski Mountain is tucked into the Sawatch Range of central Colorado, just 45 minutes east of Gunnison, and offers a refreshingly authentic ski experience. With 800 acres of skiable terrain, 67 trails, and 7 lifts, the resort is known for its laid-back vibe, reliable snowfall, and stunning alpine views. Sitting at a base elevation of 10,790 feet and topping out at 11,952 feet, Monarch receives an average of 231 inches of natural snow each season, making for consistently soft turns and powder-filled days. Trail difficulty is well-balanced: 19% beginner, 27% intermediate, 38% advanced, and 16% expert. There is also a tubing park with five lanes, and the two terrain parks designed for all skill levels.
